QUT Women In Law

QUTWIL is a progressive and motivated community of law students who are passionate about developing gender equality in the law and creating meaningful networks between students, academic staff and professionals of all genders.

Founded in 2019, our first year saw us successfully develop an inclusive and engaged membership base of over 200 students. In 2020, we plan to harness this engagement to foster mutually beneficial industry connections between QUT’s high achieving law students and Brisbane’s law firms and legal professionals.

Aims to advocate for and equip law students with the skills to be powerful players in the legal sphere, while fostering the friendships and support networks that help you get there. We believe that this kind of mutual support and mentorship is vital to ensuring women achieve their goals. QUT Women in Law’s rapid growth in both membership and engagement demonstrates that there was a growing need for a society which encouraged discussion, and helps members build connections with likeminded people who are passionate about gender equality.

QUT Women in Law  offers a variety of community, social, industry and educational events throughout the year. Last year QUTWIL hosted its first industry panel titled ‘The Making of a Modern Leader’ supported by the Women’s Lawyers Association of Queensland (WLAQ).  The panel featured a variety of successful women including, Penelope Eden (Partner at Minter Ellison), Tabatha Young (CEO of Aboriginal Family and Legal Services); Judge Jennifer Rosengren (District Court Judge); and Nichola Di Muzio (Special Counsel at Thynne + Macartney and WLAQ Treasurer). This wonderful event allowed our members to network with the panellists and one another. Key lessons from the evening included topics on resilience, work-life balance, and confidence.

We promise to: create a space where women can speak openly and honestly about the challenges they have and will face in their career; bring together a range of students, academic staff, and professionals to foster a network of mentorship and support; and help you meet likeminded people who you’ll soon consider your close friends.
